Finding and using historical maps is a crucial part of our research. The level of detail and accuracy present in 18th and 19th-century maps can be truly astounding, even despite the limitations of the time. By georeferencing these maps to modern maps and landscapes, we can more easily locate important historical features such as battlefields, fortifications, and roadways.

Comparing historical maps with contemporary maps also provides valuable insights into the way a particular area has evolved since the Revolutionary War or Civil War.
