Ground-Penetrating Radar →

Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) uses radar pulses to map, as the name suggests, underneath the surface of the earth. GPR can help locate buried objects, map structures that have been covered over since they were built, and more.

Consider a wooden Revolutionary War-era building. Wood is a natural material — and more than two centuries is plenty of time for that wood to rot away. GPR can help us find the underground stains left by that decayed wood, helping us determine where the building was and giving us an idea of what it looked like.
